For me, I guess it depends… because I got into a certain program and so the amount of materials for that program might differ from the others. In middle school, I used a jansport and they work out really good since they're sturdy [which also means they could last a while].
Im planning on getting a messenger bag, but i might also get somewhat of a tote just in case

I disagree with the above post regarding Dickies bags. These bags have been selling for so many many years now. I see these bags being worn on so many different people of various ages. Obviously this brand is still holding strong because of its quality and it is not a fly-by-night trend like most brands and styles out there.
If you have more than two books it'll be too small. they're long, but not very wide. You may be able to fit 3 smaller books in it with a note book, but that's about it. Also, the quality isn't super great, if you do pack too much in them they start to wear thin at the bottom corners and where the strap is attached.
